Fractured ankle, whole leg in pain!

I slipped on ice and fractured my ankle (left, inside or medial malleolus) on 10th January.

The first week was fine.

Then after another week I had pains in my calf. I had another appointment coming up at which they removed it (checking for DVT) and was given the all clear and had it re-plastered. Since then, I had really bad pains in my thigh so I went back to the hospital after not being able to sleep but there was no bruising or swelling so it was just put down to muscles being held in an awkward position. The thigh pains have since gone and now my knee is extremely still - it's as if everything has "contracted" and gone tight due to having the leg bent for almost a month now.

Are there any recommended exercises I can be doing to help? Obviously I can't move my ankle - will trying to "force" my knee straight help to loosen everything or is that not a good thing to do??

I'm regularly awake between 3am - 5am in discomfort so any advice would help!!!

Thanks

I think you should consult a qualified physiotherapist on this one - taking possibly quack remedies (albeit well-meaning) from here could be very dangerous.

Good luck, and I hope it improves soon.

Thanks for the answers.

Since posting, everything seems to have settled down. Now the knee is a little stiff but I'm putting the down to the fact that I can't stretch my ankle. And the cast comes off in less than a week so we'll see how it goes then...
