I recently had an ovarian cyst and the result was removal of an ovary. After leaving hospital Im suprised I will receive no follow up appointments to check on me in future. I have been told the chances of this happening again are slim, but as I am still young and not yet had children, I can't help but worry! If this was to happen thats my chance of children out the window! Someone suggested having eggs frozen, but as I am new to all this, the information online is baffling to me. Does anyone know how I would go about enquiring about this, or does anyone have any information that could help me please???

emmak.....you pose a complicated and complicated question to answer.

Firstly, I am surprised that you have not received a follow up appointment as these questions should be put to your Consultant Gynaecologist and hence I would phone his secretary for an appointment.

I am not a Gynaecologist BUT:

The removal of one ovary ( Unilateral Oopherectomy) might impair your ability to conceive, but not to a major degree, if at all.

You need to discuss your other queries with your Gynaecologist........sorry.
My eldest sister had an ovary removed due to ovarian cysts and still managed to go on to have another child, she unfortunately developed cysts on her remaining ovary during that pregnancy and at 3 months gestation had to have her other ovary removed...the pregnancy continued as normal and her son is now 23 years old.
Hi my daughter had the same thing happen when she was 15 yrs old 3 years later she had a daughter and 2 years later she had a son they are now teenagers, she had had some problems with small cysts on her remaining ovary but nothing too severe.Good luck Twinny
