Could I have a Bladder infection?

Since having a Catheter during my Epidural and Caesarian, I haven't been feeling right. When I pass water, towards the end of the stream, I get a sharp lower abdominal pain.

I mentioned this to both the Midwife at the hospital and the visiting one, but neither seemed bothered and said it was probably as a result of having a Catheter. Could it possibly be an infection of the bladder? Should I see my GP for Antibiotics?

Also, I'm still having "Lochia", which really smells quite horrible, is this normal or could I have an internal infection?

Thanks

1st of all congratulations on the birth of your baby, go to your docs and get it checked out .. you shouldnt be having the pains you describe velvetee , how was the whole experience of the birth? xxx
Velvetee, best thing to do is go along and see your Doctor and bring a sample of urine with you.

Are you feeling sick with it?

Keep drinking plenty of water and cranberry juice and also have a salt bath - that would help also.

Thanks Lady and Beau, think I will make an appointment.

As for the birth experience, it was horrible. I doubt I'd do it again.
Hi Velvetee, I had a catheter too but dn't remeber having any pain after it, so it would be best to get that checked out. I bled for about 9 weeks after having my daughter, but it never smelled, so it would be worth going to the doctors. Hope you get all of this sorted out quickly.

How is the little man? I saw your thread in family, you are right to seek advice from other parents, HV's can be useless and even the good ones aren't there when you need them! Trust your instincts, I'm sure you are doing a great job!! x
Velve...bladder infection is unlikely, pelvis infection is far more likely.
Contact your GP today.
Hi V....good you're coping. Doc should visit you so call.

I had deep sharp pains after C & was told they were muscle re-grouping? It felt like labor pains, tho' short lived.

Has Tich been named. "never again" after birth....we've all been there!
Congrats on your baby. Actually catheters do tend to cause urinary tract infections so do go and see your doctor asap. With other ops you would normally be given antibiotics as a matter of course but with breast feeding they probably dont want to pump you full of drugs that will pass on to baby.
