Ive got quite a bit of a problem I will try and explain as best as I can to see if anyone knows what I'm talking about... here goes...

I have used tamponds for the last 3 years, day and night without a problem, but yesterday morning I woke up with the tampond hurting me so I cleaned myself up and put in a fresh one and headed off to work, however at about 10:30ish I still felt uncomfortable with it so decided to remove it and what a releif... so I walked around with tissue for the rest of the day how horrible :(

Got home to find that my private area was slightly inflamed and red also its itchy and painful but only by the entrance of the vagina and the surrounding area...

Last night I struggled to sleep and today its worse its hard to stand and sit as its very painful and uncomfortable, even walking is horrible...

Please help I don't know whats wrong???

If you are having so much discomfort and pain you need medical help and should make an appointment with your doctor straight away.
Sounds like you have an infection. Go and see your Doc today if you can.

I guess that is the best option, does any one what it could be though?
Toxic Shock Syndrome ? Sometimes the body rejects what it sees as an"alien invasion". It sounds obvious but have you removed a previous tampon, they have been known to move around ?

Definatley don't have one floating around lol... The thing is I am still on my period will the doctor still see me... not sure I want them to see it at this time of the month...
Just a point...........besides the tampon, did you use any other refreshant e.g Femfresh or similar?

It sounds like a hypersensitivity reaction rather than an infection.
They have seen it all before and far worse. Just get yourself there quickly. Toxic shock syndrome is serious and if left it could kill you.

Phone the Doc now!! Instead of asking questions on here.

It could be fungal (thrush), bacterial (vaginosis) or it could even be something like an abnormal hormone profile. I had similar symptoms to yours (though less severe by the sound of it) and after undergoing various tests, it turned out that the pill I was on (Dianette) was suppressing my oestrogen. The low oestrogen levels in my body were causing the symptoms. Are you on the pill?
Sud....don't panic........It is extremely.......extremely unl1kely to be Toxic Shock Syndrome.

Sudden onset makes iy unlikely to be an infection.

sqad617... No I used nothing else like that, I normally use scented tampons but that one that hurt me was scented free which makes no sense...

NoMercy... Yes I am on the pill and have been on the same one for over 3 years and never had a problem with it...
I was on my pill for 18 months before the onset of the symptoms. Your hormones can go haywire at any time. This was an unusual result, I hasten to add. However, it's not always the most obvious explanation.

I called NHS Help Line and the nurse thinks its thrush and has advised me to see a doctor so I got an appointment tomorrow...

Ohhh don't like the thought of opening my legs whilst on my PMT :(
Thanks for the answer SuDFB.
I am not a fan of NHS Direct, in that AB is a better deal., in my opinion.
Hi very occassionally i have a similar problem.

Bit graphic coming up, so dont read if you dont want to!

My flow is a little irregular during my period, so sometimes, when i put in a tampon, there is not enough flow to fully lubricate when its in, which means the tampon basically chafes inside. Very uncomfortable.

When this happens, i take it out- you can normally tell if this is what happened, as when you take the tampon out, it resists a bit, and comes out slightly fluffy, and pretty clean.

Then once it is out, i use a pad for a short while, till the flow picks up again and the discomfort has gone.

If that is what happened, and you left it in too long, it could have caused an infection where the chafing occured.

Hopefully you will have some answers from your gp by now..
