Does anyone know where I can get my moles checked other than by a gp. Can I just go to the hospital and ask for a skin specialist to check them over?

Maybe. Some consultant dermatologists will see you privately without a GP's letter, others will demand one.

Phone your local private hospital anf enquire.

Ok thanks, the reason I don't want to go to my doctor is because I once asked him about one of my moles and I felt he was too quick to brush off my worries - he just said you are too young for skin cancer but I have looked on the internet and melanoma is quite common in young people it says.
seriously there is a clinic in London that specialises in mole and does scans etc ,it is called the mole clinic. A friend has just been there.
There is a page on moles and skin cancer on the NHS direct web page here:

There's even a little self-assessment applet on the left hand side.

soory to post a stupid answer...................but like hailthechimp, when I saw the header 'Moles' I too thought it was the garden pest variety and was going to suggest using the soil that they throw up on your flower bed, because I had heard it's very good soil.
