hi there, a few weeks ago i asked if anyone had had any bad side effects from simvastatin, as i had only taken them for 3 weeks and ended up really really ill,( muscle pain, violent headaches, could hardly walk up the stairs, weight loss, i had just about every side effect listed on the leaflet that comes with the pills) i did get several replies for which i am very grateful, but i was wondering if anyone could advise me as to what course to take next, i have stopped taking these statins, and am about to go and discuss with my doctor what to try next. i have flatly refused to take any other kind of statin. i have been told that there are other drugs to lower cholesterol but i haven't come across any reviews on these, after what happened to me with statins it has freightened me off taking anything at all, as i am still not fully recovered and still losing weight and its about 2 months since i stopped taking them, any information or advise would be gratefully appreciated

thank you both for your replies, i have read all of the information, i have no intention of taking any of the other statins, and am undecided about the other types of drugs, i feel i would like to research the drugs offered before i consent to trying them, my g.p thinks i have the inherited type of cholesterol as my father died of a heart attack at the age of 53. i do realise that it is only a minority that suffers these rare side effects, but believe me, when you happen to be one of these people then in my view its one too many. Anyway, thank you once again.
