Hi all. I do a lot of walking (I'm a paid dog walker) and for a few months now I've been experiencing pain in my right thigh at the very top when I'm walking. Also occasionally I get this pain when I'm lying on my right side in bed. I'm 48 and overweight tho losing it. Any ideas please? TIA Elaine

I wonder if it could be bursitis? I got bursitis from doing a lot of hard exercise - which gave me very persistent niggling pain in the hip/top of leg .... it was particularly upsetting when trying to sleep and went on for months.

The treatment was a simple injection (doesn't hurt at all, not even a little bit) of some sort of steroids into the hip and after about 24 hours following treatment there was no pain at all, and none ever since.

Hopefully you're going to see your GP and this might be worth asking about? I hope youi're soon feeling better.

Aged 48, overweight, pain in hip, particularly at night, could be many things, but the commonest would be osteo arthritis of the hip. See your GP and TACTFULLY request an X-Ray on your hip.
