Take the cash.

Put it another way: if today you were offered odds of 17-1 on Liverpool winning the quadruple, would you bet £22K on it?
let it ride
I suppose it depends on the financial state of the punter, personally I'd let it ride it's only cost £100 after all but if a certain £22k would help his current state then take the dosh. Tough one.
Grab it and run.

Before City play again, Liverpool are away at Southampton, a struggling side who have lost 6 of their last 7 home games. Liverpool have won 6 of their last 7 away games - the one they failed to win was a 2-2 draw at Man City. If they were to beat Southampton, that 22K offer would be vastly improved upon.
I'd grit my teeth, gird my loins, pray to a god i don't believe in and wait for Liverpool to get 3 points against Southampton.
I would certainly take the money but I actually deplore this sort of thing.
I have heard lots of tales of successful punters who have had their accounts suspended as these people don't like parting with their money.
You can get 16/1 on Villa beating Man City on the 22nd. That would have to happen for Liverpool to win the lot regardless of the Southampton and Real Madrid games. The punter could cash out and have a punt on the 16/1 shot or even put it in an Acca with Liverpool to win the other 3 games or a combination of that. The current odds are Liverpool to beat Real @11/10. To beat Southampton @7/17. To beat Wolves @1/5. Now those are very short odds. I tyhink that I would cash out and put a couple of grand on Villa win and Liverpool to beat Real at combined odds of 35.7/1. Again this need to happen if he is to pick up the full bet anyway but at least he gets the consolation of a £71,400 as well as his £20k left from his cash out. Win Win.

That's a proper gambler's mind working away there, Togo:-) The punter may be one of those who just bets on his team at the beginning of very season - i've known a few. Of course, you would have to be guaranteed someone will take the bet you propose.

Ich, of course bookies don't like parting with their cash. Back in the day when the great Victor Chandler was the main 'go to' for online gambling, i had quite the purple patch where, for a few months, almost everything i touched turned to gold. It wasn't a vast sum but my account was suspended and all monies owed to me were deposited in my bank account. No problem, there were others available at the time, and even more nowadays.
Question Author
Forgot to add, Togo, that should 'Pool beat Southampton, the cash-out offer may well be around the £70K mark (or even better) and you wouldn't have to worry about those other games:-)
Nothing to stop the bookie withdrawing the cash out offer either Ken. It has been known, as well we both know.
can't see man city slipping up against villa so i'd grab the money

I could be tempted to wait for the Southampton result.

However the bookies might be like the banker in Deal or No Deal. Just when you think the offer should rocket up, it hardly improves at all.

Is there any indication what the cash out would be if Southampton are beaten?
Question Author
I doubt they would do that, Togo. So far the free publicity they are getting from this punter's bet is positive. Imagine how Betfair punters nationwide would react were the offer withdrawn. The firm would have to change it's name:-)

ael; and i can't see Liverpool slipping up against Southampton so i'd definitely sit tight for now and probably take the revised offer.
I would let it ride, neither £22K or £300,000 would dramatically affect my life.

What should YOU do? No idea.
I guess I'm just not a gambler ken, so naturally I would take the money.
I don't think suspending people's accounts is ethical: I suppose that if they were honest enough to tell you why, it might be something.
Question Author
Hopkirk, no way of actually knowing what the cash-out offer would be. Bookies, like God, work in mysterious ways.
Question Author
Ich, the reason given was that auditors had done their regular admin and had suspended certain accounts.
Translated, that means i was taking money out and putting nothing back. When i won, i always left a 'bank' in the account for the next few days.
Perhaps if i had taken the whole of my winnings out as and when i won, then deposited when i needed to, things may have been different. Though i doubt it.
i missed the bit about the offer increasing after the liverpool southampton match . . . think i'd hang on for that result
Find someone wealthy and daft enough to fund it, give you £11,000 to keep and offer them half the winnings if it comes up good. Not sure anyone would pay the 22 and 11 thou tho!
In recent seasons, Southampton have been known to concede the odd 8 or 9 goals. There's every chance that could happen again tomorrow, in which case, as Ken says, the offer will probably go up. That's the time to cash in, I would say.
