I want to begin fasting for weight loss and other health benefits.
Has anybody experience of this?
Also, I know I would find it easier if I drank tea and coffee as well as water.
What is your advice?

If you're consuming shakes, you're not fasting. Yes I've fasted for up to 3 days at a time and it's helped my IBS no end. It also make your skin clearer, brain function and eyesight sharper and gives you more energy and focus. I still had peppermint tea and black coffee but made sure I consumed plenty of water. Probably no help, but I ended up fasting ‘accidentally’. I simply completely lost my appetite, and lost about 50lbs. I literally only drank sparkling water, or protein shakes. Shakes were very filling actually.

Thank you.
50lb loss I would like :-)

I still had peppermint tea and black coffee but made sure I consumed plenty of water.

Last week I fasted from 10am Sunday until 7pm Monday and even that relatively short stretch made me feel better. Once you're used to it, it can be easy and even enjoyable to do.

I would start off with small fasts such as missing breakfast or not eating after 4pm until 10am the next day and build up slowly. Don't gorge when you start eating again or you'll pay the price.

If it sounds right for you, buy the book from the Amazon link below. (Click on '108 used' to find copies starting from £2.70, including p&p). However I'd advise against 'just doing your own thing' and, given your various medical problems, it might be best to speak to your doctor before embarking upon any sort of weight loss plan.

Thanks Chris.
Most days we don't eat anything until about 4pm.
So going all day is easy for me.
I just need to eat the right foods and less of them.
I like what LCG says.
Considering your health issues, I think you would be very unwise.

Why not just eat less, but well?
Agree 100% with Hopkirk. I imagine the treatments you receive for your lung condition contain Steroids (Prednisolone) which will cause a weight gain. Also, your inactiveness because of your breathing problems, is not conducive to weight loss. Concentrate on making a full recovery from your pneumonia.

Fasting for an overweight seventy year old on various medication. Road to disaster. Portion size Theland that’s your safe path. You can miss the occasional meal by drinking full fat milk if your not lactose intolerant.
I fasted regularly, and enjoyed it. Went too far, seven days on water only. Threw my system out for a while.
You could also just skip a day food wise, once a week.

Don't be silly.

Interesting posts and links.
This is day two.
Not feeling hungry.
Finishing my prednisolone tomorrow. One tablet.
With your health issues, long periods of fasting will not be helpful.
Consider intermittent fasting, whereby there is a wider window between last meal of the day and first.

If you want to lose weight, you'd be better off cutting down on carbs and eating green leafy veg, and good, unprocessed foods, including poultry, fish, eggs, dairy...and no snacking.
or beer :)
I think Theland said recently that he's given up beer.
Fasting is good for the soul
I know Theland you take meds for this and that but I personally think if you can fast for a day or two - you'll not die. After all you have plenty of blubber on you to keep you going for a while - mean that as a joke Theland.

I do know of two who have done the fasting thing - they succeeded in losing quite lot of weight and also felt very well. You will miss the oul beer tho but sure it will be worth it when you turn into this handsome svelte man with all your clothes hanging off you.

Oh forgot to say - you can more benefits for weight loss to buy yourself a new wardrobe. hahahha

Yes I've given up beer. Not that I was having much anyway.
Today is day three of the fast. Still not hungry.
Have still been having tea and coffee.
Maybe water only is the next logical step.
I hope I get through today, but I won't be silly, and will eat if necessary.

Jennyjoan - I may get my modelling career back on track :-)
God that's fabulous Theland - and I am positive you have lost some pounds - are you weighing yourself daily. My downfall for me but maybe it wasn't - when I was a good girl - I would weigh myself every morning and got enlightened when a few pounds would come off, but whatever you do - like don't fast for too long ie too many days etc. Evelyn will not know who you are. You do seem determined this time and more power to you.
Can I ask Theland - when I tried fasting for perhaps one day ages ago - I got "bored" with not eating - you have nothing else to do. What are you doing to help yourself there?
