I appear to have lost Little Tigs birth cert. I've been searching for it all morning.

How do I get a copy? I've looked up lost birth certs and it takes me to HM Passport Office and then it says I need to register on the GRO but when I click 'Start Now' it takes me to HMPO but I don't know what to do next.

Yes Wolf, and that's where it got confusing.
I`m registered on the GRO and I`ve just had a look. It looks like the orders you can put in for birth certs are historical for family research purposes. After clicking through a few links, it comes to a section for registering births and says that you can order extra certificates at any time from the register office where the birth was registered. So it might be worth contacting them to see if it's still possibible to get a copy.
Click on the link where it says search the GRO, on the next page you have to register
I have looked at the first couple of pages. Hit register with GRO scroll down to green start register as individual fill in form. I did not go any further
How to get a copy of your birth certificate:-

Unfortunately you’re going to have to pay – there is a punishment for your recklessness of course. To obtain a copy of your birth certificate in England and Wales you can contact the register office where the birth took place by post or in person. You can also apply online from the General Register Office. Apply online here, if you’re in a hot mess because you genuinely cannot find your birth certificate.

This just confirms what the others have said.
Yes, when I wanted one I started to go down the GRO route then found it was not taking me where I needed to go. I then found I could get a copy certificate from my local city council in the city where I was born

I've looked everywhere I can think of Wolf. I've got piles and piles of paperwork dotted around the house and have looked through all of it. My mum seems to think that we needed it when I was going to sign him up for swimming lessons at the beginning of 2018 which we didn't do in the end as we found out that he would get them at school. Don't know what I did with the actual paperwork after that.

I registered on the GRO and clicked on 'Start Now' but it wouldn't take me to where I needed to go.

Just checked local council website and it looks like I can order it from there.
It is the little problems in life that seem to give us the most grief and seem so complicated to fix.

Good luck ☺

I could kick myself.

I'm opening up a new savings account for him and need it for that. Will needed to take his passport but that doesn't show parents details.
Did you not just get a passport for him. You would have needed the birth certificate then. If yes did you get it back from passport office? Is it with the passport
Question Author
I got a passport for him in 2016 before travelling and it was returned weeks before the passport arrived. I usually keep it with our passports and other official docs but its not there.
Question Author
I keep it in a plastic sleeve.
Where are your and partners birth certificates?
Question Author
With the passports.
Just apply to the Register Office where you registered the birth, ring first to see if they require proof of ID. It used to be that you could simply apply for a certified copy by letter but it might have changed. A fee is payable.

I've just ordered another one through my local council website. It was pretty simple to do.

Still really angry about losing it as I usually store important stuff safely in one place. I'm sure it will turn up at some point when I do a proper clear out and spring clean.
