enough to advise me,
i have been asked repeatedly to attend a Medical Assessment
Review, which i have been dreading, due to infirmity, and other reasons.
I was due to attend on 3rd December, where i had requested a home
visit, but no one got back to me.
This morning i received a letter confirming that this appointment was
cancelled.
And that i don't have to attend again...
i telephoned them and the lady said its good news, but the
DWP will write to me in the next few weeks.
I get ESA, will this continue? I am a tad confused to say the least.

Emmie yes this is good news, It means your entitlement will be based on the doctors reports and paperwork you sent in, and you will not require to go for a medical assessment. This means your entitlement will remain how its been or even increase depending on your medical reports sent in. You will receive a letter from the DWP within the next couple of weeks...

Emmie, there is a Freephone number for ESA queries: 0800 169 0310

I would ring them and, if necessary, keep ringing them until you get the information you want. Then ask them to put it in writing.

thanks goodgoalie i will do that, i just thought someone might know what this means, i am sure one or two
on here know stuff about our benefits system.
It's a pity the lady you spoke to wasn't a bit more informative but it does sound like good news Emmie, try and get more sense from the next call.
Question Author
i will, she was positive i didn't have to attend the interview, which was good. I sent in a raft of paperwork to support my inability to attend so they seem to have taken that on board. My GP's sent in letters as well, which was also good.

Emmie yes this is good news, It means your entitlement will be based on the doctors reports and paperwork you sent in, and you will not require to go for a medical assessment. This means your entitlement will remain how its been or even increase depending on your medical reports sent in. You will receive a letter from the DWP within the next couple of weeks explaining everything and your benefits will not stop. I am sure of this as I've been helping a neighbour in a similar situation.
Emmie, I would still contact them to be on the safe side, every case is different and in my experience every caseworker will look at things differently.

AL, many thanks, i tried ringing the number but got nowhere. So they will continue paying me ESA.
I actually thought they have been trying to get claimants
like myself onto Universal credit.
I shouldn't be relieved but i am, i have been fighting this case for months, and so can put this behind me, i hope.

Ask at your local Citizens Advice Bureau, they have specialist advisers and are the best people to advise you.
Question Author
will phone the number again.
No Eddie they are not the best people to advise you!, The best people to advise you are the ones that deal with the cases everyday, not pseudo experts.
Emmie put your post code in here to see if you are in a Universal Credit area

https://ucpostcode.entitledto.co.uk/ucdate

If you are, do not worry, as its only totally new claims that are affected and as yours is not a new claim you should be ok.
Without too much detail, we have been in a UC area since 2017 and my neighbour I was helping was worried they would put him over to UC but his claim was just a re-assessment so its not classed as a new claim so he was ok.

Thanks for best answer and please do not worry it really is good news x

AL, thanks so much, invaluable help, one can always can rely on someone on AB. Am on hold to benefits people just to confirm what you have said. Sure you are right.

Question Author
I have checked with the DWP, ESA people and yes benefits will continue, and no i don't have to attend any further medicals, i am so relieved i can't tell you, and thanks to all who have been following me on this
roller coaster ride.
Good news Emmie
Im so relieved for you, i know its been worrying you.
Hopefully you can get back to some sorg of normality, its horrible when you have somthing like this ganging over you isnt it? X
Question Author
rosetta, yes it is. I also had word that i am eligible for the Warm Homes initiative, run by the government, to the value of 140 pounds, so that will help considerably towards my heating bills.

Darcey
its been months and months, the last time i had to do this was several years ago and i had a major breakdown because of it.
Sounds like good news to me :) I too have just had an assessment at home. You will get an official letter-I'm still waiting on mine telling you their decision-this could take weeks. But in your case the lady you talked to said it was good news so you should not worry about your benefit as it will continue.
Well done Emmie am glad that your worries are over
