Going out to play in wellies and coming back with totally numb feet. Haven't had that in a very long time.
Patterns on the inside of the windows..
I had cod liver oil too! Revolting stuff!! And we also played out, we were more out than in! There was none of this bullying stuff, we were all friends and played together. Some of us had sleepovers at each others homes.
And the snow came up to our knees!!!! but that did not stop us.
Milk freezing in the bottles and pushing the lids off.

I remember the winter of 1963, sledging down Cambourne Crescent and crashing into the gates of the electic sub-station at the bottom. Didn't stop us doing it though!

Making huge icy slides in the yard at Friarswood Junior School, long since knocked down.

The ancient double decker bus which took us home and always appeared, no matter how bad the weather was.

having gloves attached to a string that went through your coat sleeves so you couldn't lose them. lol

lol I had chilblains but granny told us to wee in a pot a put feet in ,it worked too .
We lived on a hill so always loved sledging especially the year when the gritters went on strike. It was in total approximately 1/2 to 1 mile run.
Old and much used treatment for chilblains mallyh - my theory was it only worked if the 'liquid' used was very fresh and it was the warmth which did most good!
I remember me and my sister's room was at the end of a weather boarded 400 year old timber cottage. One night I put my hot water bottle on the floor when it had got cold. Next morning there were lumps of ice in it. This is not an exaggeration or a joke. It happened!
I remember Liberty bodices! Hated cod liver oil! Our teachers used to put the frozen milk bottles on the radiator to warm the milk yuk!

Don't get me started on the frozen outside toilets! Caretaker used to put kettles of boiling water down the pans to de-ice them!
And a makeshift electric blanket which set fire to my bed
Honest !
At least we had nice warm lino on the floor. :-(
Snow so high it used to go down your wellies and jamb your feet fast inside them.
The winter of 1947 when some of the snow drifts were taller than me.
