Back To The Doctor Or Not?

Tomorrow I finish a 10 day course of penicillin given to me because of a throat infection and swollen gland. The gland is still swollen, and the throat is a lot better but is not back to full strength yet - it still hurts when I swallow but more a bruised feel than a full-on battering. I wonder whether to go back to let the doctor decide whether I need more, or should I just leave it then go back if it gets no better? I don't want to waste her time but I don't want to undo any good that's been done. What would you do?

Go back. You'd not be wasting her time. Seeing you is what she's paid for.
Well, I would go back, as in my opinion, the diagnosis was in despute from the start..........just my opinion.

I think that you may have Glandular Fever. Perhaps the GP might consider that diagnosis?
I'd go back if the pills haven't worked. Her job is to cure you, not just to give you pills, so it doesn't seem to be done yet.
Go back for sure. That's what she gets paid for, you are not wasting her time.

Well there's a decision made then! Thank you all for that. And Sqad, I'll mention glandular fever, just in case.

Misky....I am used to sarcastic remarks from anneasquith, but not you.

Why post for advice and then reply with a sarcastic comment?

Don't worry...this is quite common on AB.

Sorry Sqad - things don't come across on the keyboard as they sound in my head. Sarcasm wasn't intended personally, just the thought of admitting to the doctor that I'd checked up on her advice before I went back to see her. I'm chastened and ashamed of myself ....
So you should be.

I was once told off for being cheeky out loud at school 35 years ago and I still blush when I think of it. I think this is going to go in the box with that memory.
Well, it least you may get a blood test.
Question Author
I'll ask, but none was mentioned when I asked if it was linked to the "fatty lump" under my arm. I'll see what happens tomorrow (assuming I can get in, that is!) x
I always have great faith in Dr Sqad's opinions and advice. People shouldn't post sarky remarks about his help.

Sqad... hope you're improving after your op. xx
janbee..thanks......back to normal ;-)
xx
Hi misky

Could be that you need a stronger anti-biotic as the one you had seems to have no effect......GP will assess and advise so I would go back.
Sqad's suggestion of it being glandular fever and the symptoms similar to what you are experiencing, seems a very good diagnosis having gone through a few years ago with Mrs Bear. Cleared up after dose of strong anti-biotics.
Best of luck x

Sqad

Glad to see you back and hope you're back to full health :-)
Yogi...thanks...full of health.

P.S Glandular fever is a viral infection....doesn't respond to antibiotics however strong...;-)
On thinking about it, sqad, it might have been a strong dose of ibruprofen and told to drink a lot of fluids I remember.

That's why you're the Medical professional.......and I'm a DJ lol

Glad you're fit fine and funky, squiddly :-)
