I have been wearing contact lenses for over 35 yrs and never had a problem until a couple of weeks ago. My eyes are red, sore and itchy and my lenses feel as they they have grit on them. I have tried 4 new pairs and they all feel the same. I went to the opticians last week and he told me I have become allergic to the lenses (not the solution) and I was to use antihistamines for a week plus comfort eye drops and to wear my glasses.
He has changed my lenses from monthly ones to daily - more than twice the price, which I am not very happy about! I have been given trial ones for 10 days. They feel ok today (1st day) but what I'd like to know is, can I take them out during the day to wear my glasses and then put them back in if I was going out? The receptionist at Specsavers didn't think I could do this! I would have to get a new pair out which is going to work out even more expensive!
Can anyone recommend any other lenses?
Thanks.

If they are the very soft ones the answer is unlikely, and only if you have some solution left in the pod. When I took mine out they just folded up on themselves and were useless, only succeeded a couple of times. in getting one of them back in, when it had come out.
Change them back to monthly ones. I did.
I used to have dailies, switched from monthlies and, despite the increased cost, I much preferred them but I wouldn't have taken them out and put them back in, I would have put a fresh pair in and would have some extras about to do this.

That said, that would be rare as due to my eyesight I would wear them all day/evening until I took them out when I got home and wasn't going out again, and would only take them out otherwise if my eyes were sore or a problem with the lens. I cleaned and put it straight back in on occasion though.

I would ask one of the opticians though (rather than a receptionist) if they are ok to be kept in special solution for short periods, like a few hours.

You could also ask to trial other monthlies, depending on the issue. Did they say what exactly you are allergic to in the monthlies which is not in the dailies and whether there are other options.

I can't wear them any more as my eyes are too dry but I do miss them.
I buy my contact lenses online....much cheaper.
May ask how old you are yelenots? I had the same thing around the time of the menopause after successfully wearing both hard and soft contacts for many years. Just had to accept that my eyes are now intolerant to them
and wear glasses (for long distance) when needed. :-(

Yogasun........sounds like we're the same age!! Maybe that is what the problem is. I have the dailies on a 10 day trial.....day 3 today....they are very comfortable, vision isn't great in one day and I am finding them extremely fiddly to put in. Think i'll have to go back! Can't bear the thought of wearing my glasses after all these years!
Look up Blepheritis (?) spelling - if it is that you can get some excellent solution and wipes from the chemist. The stuff my GP gave me was too harsh. Alternatively, try holding a warm cloth over your eyes for a while each morning then wiping each eyelid from the inside corner to the outer corner with a warm moist. The idea is to soften any debris which has accumulated on the eyelids before putting your contacts in. Sorry, can't remember the name of the stuff I got but it was Blephi something if that helps!
