I have had this nuisance dry eye syndrome for over a year now, and no remedy seems to work for more than a hour, and it is really annoying. I have tried most drops, gels and sprays, so if anyone out there has a secret formula i would love to hear from you. Please help if you can, and thanks in advance.

i have suffered from this, tried viscotears, the doctor has given me another one, which is really good it also lasts for 6 months after opening, which means no waste, it is called "HYLO-FORTE" i would really recommend it. Janet

I have the same problem, sometimes I wake in the morning and feel as if my eyelid is stuck to my eyeball :-(

I have drops from the GP which do seem to reduce the problem.
Hi ... There are other threads running onn this one, try the search button to follow up. That said one of my posts was in favour of VISCO TEARS, which has been a great help to me. You can get on prescription or buy OTC from a Pharmacist.
the correct name of it is macular degeneration - judi dench has it. Google her and see what she uses.
Sorry cmara ... not necessarily MD ... 'cos I don't have it. But certainly worth checking it out. When did the Author last have a full eye test?
Any history or family history of autoimmune disease?
I'm not sure that Macular Dgeneration ans Dry EYe Syndrome are the same at all.

Are you self medicating or going taking advice from you GP or Ophthalmologist?
Dry eyes (xerophthalmia) can often be linked to autoimmune disease such as Sjogren's syndrome.
yes it is nom - next door neighbour's has one dry eye and one wet.

I agree with you AND I agree with Conne..........how's that?

There is a type of macular degeneration which is dry........but the dryness itself is not a symptom.

Dry Eye is a syndrome but has nothing to do with the macula.

Does that make sense?

By the way, my knowledge of Ophthalmology is minimal..........
There can also be links to other conditions, I have "sicca syndrome" linked to rheumatoid arthritis, similar to Sjogrens but without the antibodies which show up in blood tests.

The eye hospital prescribed me celluvisc eye drops and lacrilube ointment to put in before bed and I also take pilocarpine which was prescribed as I get a really dry mouth too (not enough saliva) and it seems to help both my eyes and mouth (works on the glands I think).

I've also got meibomiam gland dysfunction which means the glands clog up and that has some effect on moisture being held on my eye (it just evaporates almost immediately) and I have a special eyemask which I can warm in the microwave to put over my eyes to use with massage to keep the glands unblocked.

The best means of finding a solution is a cause. Have you ever seen a GP/optician/eye hospital about your dry eyes?
I have blepharitis and poor quality tears. That's what causes mine. A pharmacist recommended I tried very dilute baby shampoo, but I haven't dared yet.
Mojo - For Blepharitis the baby shampoo really does help.
You really shouldn't have left this so long. Make an appointment with your optician and he will give you the appropriate treatment, probably some eye drops. Hope you get it sorted soon.x

You should see an eye specialist right away because you have already tried so many things and none of them seems to work.. trying so many things on sensitive eyes is also a big risk..
