HI I am wondering if I am running out of insulin. I am a type 2 diabetic and my hba1c test was 77 Ive been told to go and see GP on wednesday. I am now worried I am running out of insulin. If I am being totally honest I have a terrible diet with at least 1 bar of chocolate and a bag of sweets a day at the very least. I am wondering if I really reduce my sugar intake now could it make a difference or is insulin looking likely I am only 41 but the last few weeks been very tired. So I could see the advantage of insulin. I am on 4 metformin and 2 glipazide a day

Yes, my sister was able to stop taking tablets altogether after she dropped 4 stone. However, for goodness sake, start taking better care of yourself. A diabetic eating sweets every day is beyond stupid. Do you really want to have legs amputated in a few years time....??? This can happen if diabetes is not managed. Not sure what you mean by "running out of insulin". Your body has decided that it has had enough of your diet and is battling back. Listen to it.
Your age will make a difference to any advice you're given. I would cut down on sugary things as much as possible for now and see your doctor asap.
Sorry- you gave your age. Yes, strongly advise you to change your diet. It can help, whether you're on tablets or insulin. I don't understand the reading of 77, but others might.
Yes, but not in your situation.
As I have told you a couple of days ago, you are a certainty for Insulin.
Gordie - not wishing to be rude at all, but you have been worried about your Diabetes for quite some time now - why are you still eating sweets and chocolate, and a terrible diet ??

You know the right things to do, but only you can do them (plus your medical team's help of course.
Well you're a bit daft eating all that rubbish knowing you shouldn't ..

I guess I have always thought if I take the pills I should be able to eat what I want but it seems not to be the case
no poo Sherlock?????
....and sorry but you won't be able to eat like that on insulin either....at least you will but it won't be a sensible thing to do.
You are taking a lot of pills already. I suspect they'll move you on to insulin, which might actually mean it makes less difference what you eat, as it will be better monitored and controlled. Get an appointment as soon as,you can and make sure you ask them everything you need to know.
No, it's not the case. The pills help but you have to take control yourself to help yourself. Cut your sweet intake, NOW. When you see the GP, be honest and tell him you've not been watching your diet. You have to help yourself - taking the tablets won't be any use if you still carry on stuffing rubbish into your body.
You have to start taking care gordie!
Insulin is your last step, and believe me, you will need to really get your act together.
You must value your life? Please take it seriously. Your craving for sweet things, though, may go away a bit once you have managed the diabetes.
There is a lot of evidence that a low carb diet works for a lot of diabetics. Sugar is your enemy...and all the sweets you eat are bad...but so are grain based foods,as they convert to sugar. Try to ditch these things and eat lots of leafy greens as your only carbs.
you really have to knock the sweets and chocolate on the head, eat proper meals with proper food, most of the complications you see with diabetics are on people who eat a bad diet.

yes, cutting OUT sugar and chocolate will make a huge difference. so do it!
Gordie, with an hba1c of 77 your insulin will be nothing but a distant memory!
My daughter is an insulin dependent diabetic (for 23 years) she also has a dreadful sweet tooth, (still has to a degree) she has learned to moderate her sweeties intake over the years - believe me it is no picnic! You really must do something about this, the consequences if you continue to bury your head in the sand will be dire. As a result of my daughter's poor sugar level control in the past she has recently had to have laser treatment on her eyes as there was a danger of her losing her sight because of her poor control, and her determination that "she knew best" (she didn't want to be a diabetic and tried her level best to ignore it) and would not listen to the advice she was given.
Now, she has realised that she doesn't know best and regrets her attitude, and is now more or less on an even keel. It is your turn now to do the sensible thing, go and see your doctor or even your diabetic nurse they will get you sorted out. Please listen to their advice and do what they ask you to do, you will be the one who benefits. The consequences of continuing to eat your sweeties and not following good diet could be dire. You run the risk of blindness, kidney troubles even amputation if you carry on down this road.
For your own sake Gordie seek professional help, everyone on AB has encouraged you to do this in the past, we are not the ones you need to ask for advice any more you must see a doctor.
Type 2 Diabetes
You are better to start insulin than upping the tablets. It is not like type one where you run out it is harder for your body to get its insulin out. People see insulin as last resort or failure but it is not and truth is after 10 years of being type 2 you will need to be on insulin anyway. It is true diet can help with type two the misconception is the sugary foods like sweets and chocolate are bad but is the carbs that raise your blood glucose a jacket potato would impact on you a lot more than a Mars bar trust me
