After being excessively tired, weak and enduring stomach cramps for a few weeks I went to my doctors. My glands were also swollen. I wad told that I probably had a virus and to take paracetamol.

I was speaking to my mother on the phone, and explained that it was probably best not to meet up with her that werk in case I passed the virus on. Being excessively tired, I was sleeping up to 22 hours a day on my days off work, and feeling weak beyond words wjilst there. My mum expressed concern and told me get my sugar levels checked.

The pharmacy offers these tests so I adked to be checked out. I had a reading of 6.8 , seven hours clear of eating. I was told this was high. OH is now insisting that I go to the docs. I do not like wasting gp time. Anyone know if my symptoms and blood sugar reading could be related?

Well if you aren't feeling well and its weeks since you went to the doc, why not go back?
sounds more anaemic than diabetic
If your not satisfied with your own GP can't you see another one in the practice?
The doctor will be able to test you properly. If you look at my questions, i had something similar with my 10 year old recently. Diabetes was ruled out with a quick urine test and fingerprick test. However, he had no other symptoms. The main ones for diabetes are tiredness, thirst, urinating a lot and losing weight. But only your doctor can give you a definite answer.

I'm worse than a bloke for going to the docs! Im also going abroad this weekend, and I know damn well I won't get an appointment before then
better hope you've got good medical cover then
Your symptoms are not consistent with being associated with your blood sugar level, which is a bit on the high side but no big deal.

Stomach cramps and swollen glands may well be viral in origin.

I cannot understand why the GP didn't do a blood test to exclude glandular fever or an aneamic problem.

You are unlikely to pass the virus (if it is a virus) on to your mother.

I would go back to the GP and suggest a blood test.
Tell them sqad sent you. A bit of name-dropping never did anyone any harm!
I agree with woofgang - but you have to declare if you have pre-existing problems and they may not be covered.....

I'll phone the docs in the morning. I went out for a meal on Saturday and fell asleep in the restaurant! Could have a fun holiday ahead of me!
Another thought....you could ask your GP if he thought checking your thyroid hormones would be a good idea, as an under active thyroid also springs to mind.
