My husband isn't a complainer and has a very high pain threshold. He had a Hip Replacement 3 years ago that went very well and he was walking in no time

Since the weekend he has been wincing with pain in the hip and down to his knee. Today while out he had to sit down many times because of the pain and took painkillers as soon as we walked in the door.

Although he is 80 he is very fit and goes out walking several times a week.

This pain has stopped him in his tracks. Any ideas why this might be.....please

Yes.....the prosthesis may may out of place although after 3 years, this is not good.
He needs to go back to his Orthopaedic surgeon for MRI scans.

Thankyou Squad. He will make an appointment in the morning to see his GP, hopefully to arrange a scan.

Appointment this PM.

He has pointed out there is a painful large bump on the hip, right by the operated scar. Cupo
Cuppa.....thanks, will be interested.

Doc says its probably Sciatica, the bump being a tight muscle ?

Its just as painful today. He was prescribed Ibuprofen Gel and Co-codamol.

She will see him in 3 weeks if it hasn't got better....I think she will see him sooner than 3 weeks if it doesn't clear up in that time.

cupa...thanks for the update.

Another update Squad....hubby been in so much pain he went back to the surgery today and seen by another GP who diagnosed Bursitis.

I've had a little read up on it and I am thinking this is more like the problem than Sciatica.

Thanks for your interest.
