I am getting a gummed-up feeling in my ears. I have had them syringed out before but that is something I find extremely unpleasant.
I am considering things such as 'Otex' as an alternative. Does anyone have an opinion on this product?

thanks

How long ago since you last had your ears syringed at the doctor's, howard? You may find techniques are different now, if it was a while ago. I wouldn't attempt home remedies.
no no dont use it
warm olive oil is the best thing
Take 400mg Ibuprofen and monitor the situation.

Personally I use a Philips screwdriver........seriously.
I had this problem about 5 years ago the doc syringed them at the surgery, not very nice. It started again this June/July went to the docs he said they were bad, and the surgery do not do it now in our town you have to go to a clinic, so he gave me a prescription and made a appointment for the next week, and I must say I found it much better the wax was softened and all is now well, all these products do is soften the wax prior to it being syringed, if anything I found it quite pleasant
had my ears syringed twice in the past 12 months so much better and did not hurt or anything unpleasant either. tried ear drops but getting them syringed at doctors was the only way felt so much better straight afterwards
.\\\ Does anyone have an opinion on this product? \\

This product is both safe and efficient in both softening and removing wax.
Had my ears syringed recently before having a hearing aid fitted. First time in many, many years and it was a totally different experience from before. Techniques have moved on. have never used 'Otex' so can't comment.
I have my ears de-waxed regularly at my local hospital using the vacuum method. It is very quick, absolutely painless, and much more pleasant than traditional water syringing methods. No need to put anything in the ears at all. Ring the ENT department of your local hospital and ask them. You will need a referral from your GP, but if you ask them to fax it through you could probably get an appointment pretty quickly.

Please can you explain what was different?

Howie - They used the vacuum method which is very quick and completely painless. I hated the sensation of getting warm water squirted into my ears, which is how they did it many years ago.
infomaniac....you are very lucky to have an ENT dept that is willing to remove wax by any method.

A consultant ENT surgeon would not be best pleased to have a patient referred for " wax removal"............

No wonder waiting lists are long......
LOL shoota
~Squad - my GP first referred me to the local hospital to have this done and I have been going every three months for the last couple of years. Recently the nurse who was trained in this procedure was off ill for several months and by searching the internet I discovered that another local hospital, even nearer to where I live, also do this. I telephoned them and they said they would do it if my GP sent through a referral, which he did. I only have one ear that works (and that, not very well), so need to keep my ears clear of wax and the water-syringe method is considered too dangerous for someone with only one working ear. If that one gets damaged I am well and truly *********
P.S. It is not an ENT consultant that carries out this procedure, it is a nurse.
info....LOL....message received and understood.
Yes, I understand that.....but you would have to see someone medically qualified initially.
Howard - you lie on a bed and the nurse inserts a tube in each ear in turn and it sucks the wax out.
