Lifting a seat in the garden yesterday, my back "went", and its very painful, spasms in my lower middle back, which I have had in the past, so I know I have to keep moving or it completely locks up. I have reluctantly taken some Ibuprofen tablets (not keen on them as they make me a bit whoozy) Sqad always recommends 600mg (3 tablets) at a time but on the packaging I notice it only says 2 tablets (400mg) max. Is it really ok to take 600mg every 4 hours?

Ann....good question........I suppose just in case someone has a reaction to a higher dose.

On the Continent of Europe, 600mgm tablets are sold....not in the UK though.

How many more times?...YES if a lower dose doesn't relieve your pain.
Hmm

The maximun recommended dose on Ibruprofen seesmms to be 3200mg per day

A few sites but here's the Mayo clinic on it

Certainly higher doses like 3 or 4 tablets seem common provided you stay in that.

600mg every 4 hours gives you 3600 mg in 24 hours

If you're worried you could alternate between 3 and 2 tablets but you'll probably miss a one anyway overnight.

Obviously stop if that "whoosyness" gets worse - some people have reactios to Ibuprofen - my daughter certainly does

Thank you Sqad I will try it! May I humbly ask then, why don't they put 2-3 tablets every 4 hours on the packaging?

Have you used heat ot cold in the site of the pain? Either is helpful. Cold I find more effective but more brutal(bag of frozen peas wrapped in a pillow case), heat is more soothing.
I can sympathise with you Ann. I keep a cool jell pack in the freezer and find it works wonders when my back plays up.
It may be my imagination but when I take a course of Ibuprofen, as I have done in the past, I tend to put on weight.

O goodness me I hope not parkdale! I can do without putting more weight on just by taking a tablet instead of lovely food!
PS my back is feeling much better tonight, the ibuprofen have worked well. The test will be turning over in bed during the night and jumping out to switch the alarm clock off! Watch this space ..........
good evening Ann.

sorry to read that you are in pain, but also glad to see the last post indicating that it may be easing off.

ibuprofen is a very effective painkiller - i take it myself for my wrist problem.

hope you have a relaxing nights' sleep, and do not jerk too suddenly in the morning when the alarm goes off.

away myself in a moment .... up at 0430 in the morning for early shift.

good night -- and sweet dreams.
