Or does one just cancel out the other?

I'm male, 58, with a history of Urinary Tract Infections and currently have Klebsiella, for which I'm on a course of antibiotics. Somebody suggested I also have probiotic drinks to replace the good bacteria, but isn't there a chance it'll replace the bad bacteria too?

Sorry for sounding thick but I've never had probiotic drinks before and I just want to be sure they're not going to make things worse.

I'd appreciate any help. :o)

Why wouldn't you want the 'bad' bacteria replaced?
Question Author
What? Are you serious? It's the bad bacteria causing my Klebsiella.
Carry on, with or without probiotics.....they won't make a bit of difference to the fight between our friend Klebsiella and the antibiotics.
You need to take a probiotic supplement- the amount of probiotics in drinks and yoghurts is very small and not enough to make a difference.
errr what? BJ how can replacing the 'bad' bacteria make things worse.
I think the terminology is being misunderstood, do you mean 'reinstating' the bad or 'replacing' with good Jomifl?? I think that is what is being read wrong here.

Cheers sqad and Scarlett, much appreciated.

jomifl: Did you even read my response to you? It's the bad bacteria causing my Klebsiella (read up on it, it's a very nasty infection) so it should be perfectly clear why I want to get rid of the bad bacteria, not replace it.

Thanks mamyalynne. :o)
Thanks mammyalynne, I could see that there was a semantics problem but thought it was with the negatives. We don't want to re-instate the bad bacteria, we want to replace them (with good ones) ;-)
Agree with sqad

I to was confused by this bit "but isn't there a chance it'll replace the bad bacteria too?" Was glad I read the whole thread before pposting

Ahh, now that makes much more sense, jomifl. I assumed you'd meant replacing the bad bacteria with even more bad bacteria! Cheers. :o)

Thanks for your input too, ojread2.
A second year trainee pharmacist told me that in one of the hospital pharmacies they regularly prescribe actimel with antibiotics!!!
I was told what scarlett said, that a probiotic supplement is better than taking a probiotic drink.
