Hey all, I have been on a mega diet + fitness jobby since October 2011 + have lost 26+a half pounds so far.....another million to go.....but for the last fortnight i have suffered really badly with constipation, last weekend was horrendous, it was 4 days in between 'movements' which physically drained me + made me have a vodka or 2 plus some exlax for the 1st time in years! And now I'm surviving on Sennakot every day, I feel like my Nan + I'm only 33!!!!

Does anybody have any advice to help 'keep me going' almost daily, or every 2 days!!!

I have noticed when I do 'go' I feel more energised + ready for excersize, but the past 2 weeks I'm drained from it......

Any advice greatly appreciated !!

(6stone to go....at least!)

Are you eating plenty of fibre and taking plenty of fluid? Also exercise - ie walking will help

Balls, just realised, I'm logged in as my Hubby......I'm NiallsMama!
Plenty of fresh fruit, brown bread and baked beans ought to work wonders, no need for anything drastic.
I find home made soup helps with the nether regions
No harm in taking senna on a daily basis.
Do you have enough fluid in your diet?
water and fibre should be increased to start, and lay off the exlax as it takes away the body's own rhythms! porridge and muesli can bung you up without water too!

abdominal massage is very hepful, complete with both hands crossed gently across intentines and down! pilates and yoga too!

natural yogs and those activias are great too!

but it can't come out if i doesn't go in! so don't cut down too much on the healthy, fibrous foods, like homemade soups and stews!
Hey, I managed to log in!!

Yep, I've been having weetabix (only 1) for brekkie, plus wholemeal wraps, 'coz I don't really eat bread.....+ have been trying to swim a mile twice a week plus 2 zumba classes + a circuits class...I'm happy the weights coming off, but ouchy with the fall back at 'toilet time'....Lol
Dont take laxatives everyday! This is the worst solution, a downward spiral which will only leave you needing more and more laxatives to enable you to have a motion as it makes your bowels lazy. Best advice I can give is plenty of fluids, water especially throughout your day, plenty of fruit (grapes, apples and oranges are full of fibre but bananas are too but high in calories) and veg (sweetcorn is excellent lol) and lots of salad, wholemeal bread, jacket potatoes.
It might help to say what you are eating on your diet as the key may lie in that. Congratulations on the weightloss so far though :)
in that case, i would actually cut out the wholemeal wraps for a few days to see if they are 'aggravating' you!
Hopefully things can be sorted by diet (including better hydration) but if there is no resolution quickly then see your GP.

Any unusual change in bowel habit should be reported to a GP so best to get it checked out if it continues.

Laxatives should only be a very short term solution unless under medical direction - it's not healthy to use them frequently or for a prolonged period unless there is some medical need for it.
Try adding an Activia yoghurt into your daily diet, I find they work wonders, unfortunately they have a fairly high calorie content so you will have to try and balance that against the rest of your intake.
Use sweetcorn to check your transit time...

avoid it for at least a week then eat a good sized portion and see how long it takes to come through...

if its more than a couple of days increase your fibre rich foods and fluids but also increase the amount you have at breakfast time for you start the day with a bit of a nudge... maybe add some fresh berries to your weetabix and a heaped teaspoon of ground flaxseed for added goodness and fibre

If that doesn't improve things try physillium husk either as fybogell or in its raw form in a glass of water

And if that doesn't work see your GP
A pint of cider does it for me !!!..
I swear by the probiotic drinks personally. Really notice if I don't have my actimel.
They are good...had one and a probiotic yoghurt on the same day won't make that mistake again
Wow thanks for all your reply's! I'm pushing fluids, about 3ltrs, it keeps my hunger at bay if I fill up on water! sounds like I need more fibre...Have to get some more in!! Will give the probiotic yogs a go too + try the sweetcorn test lol....That's another veg on my dinner tonight :)
