I want to try getting straight hair. My hair is naturally curly and I just use Herbal Essences Split Ends shampoo & conditioner at the mo! I don't want my hair to be poker straight so I don't want to use straightners but my hair actually used to be naturally straight (ever since I got it cut short it's curly, dont ask me why) and I once used shampoo for curly hair (almost like a de-frizz type thing, was pantene pro v to make curls more defined) and my hair dried curly. If i used a shampoo for straight hair on my now curly hair, would it straighten it out? It wouldnt be poker straight but just not curly, straight with a nice wave? Thanks

no, shampoo wont make a jot of difference to the nature of your hair follicles
You can get straightening lotions and potions in the styling section of the chemist's - they'll make your hair a wee bit straighter as long as you dry it straight. Failing that start saving and get yourself a Brazilian Blow Dry

curls rock. your attitude is, quite frankly, appalling!

;o)
how tight are your curls??
my eldest daughter is mixed raced and needs to get hers straightened at the hairdressers
Ah but Sara, you have proper curls - I suspect Sophie and I may share the King Charles Spaniel look, where it's too straight to be curly but too curly to be straight and something has to be done either way :)
a hot oil treatment once a week like vo5 hot oil can improve the quality of your curls and stop them from frizzing also a serum like frizz ease can be of help as well dry not to use a hair dryer to often as this dries out moisture and increases the frizzy look !!!
Karen, gotcha.. kind of ;o)
You can pay a fortune to get the King Charles look sophie, learn to love it! It'll be losing the weight by having it cut that has restored its natural curl.
Get a perm. Do all the stuff like having a curly perm but don't use curlers let it dry natural. hey -presto.

Similar to mine, when it's short it goes really curly but they are pulled out when it's longer. I find it behaves better without layers as well.

I find the Pantene Smooth and Sleek quite good and the frizzease spray before blow drying. I find blowdrying it properly makes a big difference, not that I'm very good at it, don't have the patience to spend a lot of time on it daily (wash my hair every day). The frizzeaze serum is good but I have to watch the amount as it can easily turn my hair really greasy looking as it's very fine and naturally oily with dry ends, probably from daily washing, blowdrying and straightening.

The daft thing is, everyone comments on how nice it looks curly! I used to do some product testing for Charles Worthington and had him and his assistant playing with my hair. His assistant always kept saying I should wear my hair with a natural curl but its easy for him to say that when he just has the knack!

I'd find it hard to blowdry curly without being frizzy though and as I won't leave the house without showering and washing my hair I don't have time to let it dry naturally and am not going out with wet hair.

I fully admit though, a lot of it comes down to lack of effort, if I spent the time I'd get far better results.
My daughter also has very curly hair. She has spent hours and money strightening it but as soon as the atmosphere was slightly damp even in the bathroom, her hair goes fluffy so in her word she has decided :to embrace the curls.: Longer hair does pull the curls down and dfinitely no layers. Enjoy the curls and get a straightener to use for a change now and then because there is no permanent solution
Use a hotbrush.
Your hair is curly now it's short because it's lighter meaning you hair isn't pulling down on itself causing it to be straight.

get a brazillian blowdry. your hair will be straight for months!
My hair is naturally curly and I've had it straightened using the Yuko system on several occasions. It does make it dead straight though. John Freida does a straightening range of products.
Brazilian blow dry all the way :)
