Fabric conditioner and washing cycles

When you put fabric conditioner in the washing machine and it is added by the cycle, is it rinced out again or does it go in at the end with the final rince and stay in the fabric?
I`m hand washing a couple of jumpers and I never know whether to rince the conditioner out or leave it in the water at the end

Oh dear, I meant rinse, not rince

ours stays in it goes in on final rinse
