Help with choosing a foundation

My skin is quite tricky in the way that whenever I apply face cream it feels like I'm wearing a mask and my skin can't breathe. I have found that visibly clear is the only face cream that light enough but I can only apply it before bed so it has enough time to soak in over night.

My skin tone is fair/rosy and I would like a foundation to even it out a bit but don't know what to go for as I've only had horrible experiences in the past. Remember back in the 80's where it truly was like wearing a mask :-)

There are so many different versions out on the market now compared to the last time I used foundation, so was hoping someone might have some experience to share or advice.

I'm also thinking maybe I would be better off with a powder instead of a foundation, but again unsure.

In advance, thanks

Forgot to say, that money is not an object here, so doesn't have to be cheap brands
Hi,
Like you I have funny skin with uneven skin tone - I couldn't find a foundation that was suitable until I tried mineral powder foundation - I use L'Oreal.

I have been using it for over a year now and haven't used anything else since.
It evens out the tone and is light - you don't know it's on.

Give it a try. Good luck.
The BodyShop will match foundation to your skin tone....free. I went in to buy some foundation and as I was unsure she gave me a seat and and applied them for me. I came away with two types and they are very good.

Not keen on Bodyshop products, not had a good experience with them, but thanks for the advice all the same :-)

patricia, I'm intrigued. Are powder foundations a mix between a liquid foundation and a powder? Does it come in different shades or just the one?

Is there a general tip to choosing the colour of your foundation? Your hands aren't the same colour as your face :-). I want something that can even out my skin tone, but at the same time give me a bit of colour without it screaming "caked in make up"
Nor was I but they've changed now.
Hi
It is all natural mineral powder - I looked into it for quite a while before I bought - I found the right colour in the L'Oreal range - I knew I didn't want yellow based or too light or dark.
Clinique do a mineral range and they will try it out on you in store.
It lasts for ages too - you just build it up on your face to as much as you need. I wouldn't use anything else now.
There are quite a few companies who do it so there is plenty to choose from. Google mineral foundation and you will see what I mean but don't buy it offline as you could then make a mistake with the colour as it is never a true representation is it!
google sheer cover the best range i have ever bought xxxx

Perfect!!
Thank you so much for your help. Am off to the shops :-)

I've spent a fortune on foundations over the years. It is incredibly difficult to find a new one isn't it. The best foundation I've ever used is Intelligent Colour by No7 (I have a fairish colour skin too and use Light). I particularly like the silky smooth texture. It gives good coverage without being heavy. I have tried mineral brush on foundations without any success. I found it difficult to get an even coverage and ended up with it looking and feeling very thick on my skin. My skin is verging on the dry by the way. Good luck with your shopping trip. PS why not take a small pot into Boots and ask for a sample of foundation to try.
If you're having trouble with moisturiser not soaking in you need a facial scrub. I use Clinique 7 Day Scrub and as soon as I've used it I can tell the difference, as the moisturiser is absorbed straight away rather than 'sitting' on the skin.

Goodness me, what great answers you've all given me.

Craft1948 - that's exactly how it feels. I never use a face scrub, so I'm deffo giving that a go. Brilliant tip. Do you then apply the cream straight after the scrub?

Redhelen - You've just described me!!! And I thought I was one of a kind..LOL.
I've heard about green counteracting redness before, but the greens I've always found have been eyeshadows and it's doesn't look good with all the shimmer and glistening on your face...LOL!
What do you use?
