My 32year old daughter has asked for a good moisturiser for Christmas. Her skin is quite dry so she'd like a really rich but not heavy. Looking to spend about £20-£25 as she wouldn't pay that herself. Any advice on which brand to go for? These department stores don't give impartial advice as they all work for a specific company. Any advice appreciated, thanks.

Nivea is just as good as the more expensive brands.

What about Boots no 7 Protect and Perfect which has many fans.
But department stores will give samples to try so that she can see for herself which one will be best for her....
Quite honestly I wouldn't go for all those expensive creams on the market but rather an apricot oil for night time. I'll let others come up with creams for daytime!

I'd buy her some Clinique 7 Day Scrub, then she could use any moisturiser.

I thought the Protect & Perfect was something to apply prior to moisturiser, like a serum/primer? Not sure now. I don't want to get samples as it's a Christmas present, but I know that some stores will give samples out.
not sure that's right craft, some give me hot spots, some slide off and don't moisturise, decleor makes my skin sore. Any old moisturiser won't do!
samples and a gift token?
Protect and Perfect is the name of the range, includes moisturiser, sereum eye and lip cream. I am very allergic to it.
woof I have dry skin and know when I need to exfoliate as the moisturiser simply won't rub in. As soon as I use the 7 Day Scrub the moisturiser just sinks in.
I really like Avon skin products and they're reasonably priced with some good offers each month. However, if you want big brands try cheapsmells.co.uk who have some excellent products at very good prices and postage free. I always use them for fragrances.
i agree - some moisturisers dont suit everyone.... some i have used dont sink in and sort of 'roll off' in lumps, and others make my eyes sting.

i use nivea - the one in the blue tub - i cannot use the nivea in the white tub as it makes my eyes feel weird

i also agree that the expensive ones are no better than cheap ones - you are paying for the name and the blarney.

if you must get her a fancy one i have heard elizabeth arden 8 hours stuff is good.

but i would see if you can get her a collection of sample or travel sized ones so she can choose whichever is best for her.

or, you are best getting a few 'mid price' ones for her, because no point in getting her an expensive tub for her to get used to, if she cant afford to replace it when it runs out.
when i say samples i dont mean sachets or tiny bottles - but smaller versions of the large tubs - travel size, that are properly paid for, and sometimes gift boxed.
it's a very personal thing, she needs to try before you buy - the range at Aldi is excellent (although not posh wrapping)
Nivea is just as good as the more expensive brands.

Thank you all. I'll look thru all your advice & then decide.x
I just started using this about a month ago -

Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation

Even though it is described as light,I find it to be very rich. But-in spite of my skin still being some what oily-this stuff never feels heavy or greasy. It smells divine also.
There is also a rich version.
I use Elemis skin care the Marine moisturising cream is wonderful but (sadly) expensive, I always ask for it for birthdays or Christmas, or buy it from QVC the shopping channel. My daughter is an Avon lady and she has some really nice moisturisers - she gave me one suitable for 50+ skins which was very nice, but they also have creams suitable for 20+ and so forth up to 70+. You could check out the Avon website and see what they have which might suit.
Personally if it's a luxury present she wouldn't normally buy for herself then I'd go for one of the department store ranges. They're all much of a muchness. Perhaps pick something from the less 'sedate image' ranges - Benefit, Clarins, Clinique, Lancome etc
I used by Boots points to buy some Chanel moisturiser which is very nice but quite honestly the Protect & Perfect from Boots is really good plus is very often on 3 for 2 so good value.
