It's not an old book, but I have a copy of 'Best-Loved Poems', edited by Neil Philip. It has the categories: Of Childhood and Youth; Of Love and Marriage; Of Life; Of Loss and Comfort ; Of War and Peace; To Read Aloud; To Read Quietl;y; Of Animals and Nature and Of Magic and Mystery. It was first published in 2000. ISBN, if you're interested, 0316724386
Palgraves Golden Treasury is pretty old and about everything.

I agree with woofgang, you can't go wrong with "The Golden Treasury". For something different choose just one poet and go for a 'selected poems' volume.

My personal favourites are Walter De La Mare, Rudyard Kipling, John Betjeman and Thomas Hardy.

The New Oxford book of English verse does it for me. the Edition by Helen Gardner in particular.
