In Washington DC i went to an art gallery exhibition and was shocked by a piece i saw in the modern art section. It was a pair of soiled mens pants on a flag pole. I thought this was disgusting and not art at all!!!!, what is your opinion?

It sounds to me as if it is a statement about figting for freedom being a load of ****.  Perhaps it is an anti-war message or has something to do with the artist's opinion of the current state of America.

I believe that art is whatever you want it to be, kinda like "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".  It's more about the expression of the artist and them releasing themselves into their work.  Whether you love it our hate it, the artist has still got a reaction out of you which was the intention in the first place.
