I read a children's book in 1965, which was about a raven. It had a red and black cover I think, with drawings inside. It was such a wonderful, almost mythical story that I've never forgotten its impact on me, but I can't seem to find it now. I think it might have been called 'The Raven'. Does anyone have any memory of a book like this?

I don't know your particular book Izitso but I can tell you that the raven is known as a trickster in a lot of mythology. Search for the word "raven" on the enclosed Wikipedia page - he appears for instance under MYTHOLOGY and COYOTE - and it may evoke some memory for you. (Did your raven steal sun, moon and stars...?)

Yes, it did! Thank you for that. I will do a bit of research.
Could it be this: Sketco the Raven?

The book was originally published in 1961. The image I found of it is from a 1990s reprint. See this page:
