Is it true that Alexander Calder invented the Mobile? Or was he the first to use it in art?

What happened to the huge mobile that used to the hang in the Pompidou in Paris?

Read about Calder's 'mobiles' here Note the comment on 'Kinetic Art', around before Calder. (I also suspect that the Japanese used hanging origami ornaments, i.e. 'mobiles' , long before anything like that appeared in Western culture).
