I enjoyed Day of the Triffids and Death of Grass.
J G Ballard's Elements quartet (The Wind from Nowhere, The Drowned World, The Crystal World and The Drought) deal with worlds reduced to chaos by natural disasters caused by the four Aristotelian elements (Air, Water, Earth, Fire).
On The Beach by Nevil Shute
Walter M Miller Jnr's 'A Canticle For Leibowitz' is a particular favourite of mine.

The Genocides by Thomas M Disch is very good
Don't know whether you'd like a kids' read or not, but Robert Swindells' 'Brother in the Land' is worth a look.
"The Earth Abides", by George R. Stuart, though published in 1954 it remains an absolute classic. Disease wipes out the population of the earth apart from a handful of survivors in the US who gradually meet up to form a small community. As time passes, and the trappings of civilization slowly decay, they are faced bit by bit with a return to a more natural existence. Unbelieveably believeable. Definitely a top of the list book.
