Name of a book???

I read a book quite some time ago, and have no idea of the author or title.

From what I can remember all the adults in the world wake up one day and try to murder all the children under a certain age - something to do with evolution if I remember correctly. The story centres on a pair of brothers who escape with a load of other kids and set up a kind of commune.

There is a particular scene that sticks in my mind where one of the brother's is chalenged for leadership of this group and has to run a course with a stick of dynamite chained to his hands, and the kids around the world communicate by CB radio. I believe that somewhere like Malta managed to kill all the adults, so the kids run the place??
