Great to see the TV series Chernobyl receive 14 BAFTA nominations but like so many serialised shows these days I keep seeing the word 'miniseries' and read it in my head phoenetically as minizeries. Am I the only person who does this or does it require splitting or a hyphen. Mini Series or Mini-Series ???

I'd put a hyphen in. But then I remember when we used to put one in either to-day or to-morrow, or maybe it was both, when I was at primary school
Absolutely agree. I kept looking at the word wondering if it was a word I hadn't heard/used before lol. Should be two words IMO.
We end up getting used to these words though, like docudrama, sitcom, romcom... they probably all seem strange at first.
splitting-mini series
it's like biopic (is it pronounce bye-opic or Byo Pic?)
Google has either miniseries or mini-series.I prefer mini-series
looks clumsily garbled as one word to me

To me it looks like a typo.
It's an American term and they tend not to use hyphens as much as we do.

They have "coworkers" not "co-workers" and I always read their word as "cow worker".

Many thanks for your kind replies. I am glad, like me, most would prefer a split or hyphen.
Don't listen to me though on this- I can't justify the one in fiction-factory
I thought it was one word: miniseries.
there used to be one in street names, like Oxford-street. And to-day, as ff says.

In general I'd say no but you're right, it looks like miseries, and I'm always okay with punctuation that prevents misreadings.
App designers have to codesign.

In my head I read it for ages as co-design when actually it is pronounced code-sign.
I have moved this thread into the category "Media & TV".
it's not Media and TV, SpareEd! It's spelling/grammar, whatever topic that comes under. It could just as easily have been about hyphens in lockdown or battlehip.
Education would be a better category. At the moment there aren't any posts there.
Ah, my mistake. I will pop this in "Arts & Literature".
excellent, I will use it to plug my latest book, "The Art of the Hyphen" :-)

I believe you can find app designers on experts-exchange.com - which has a hyphen as otherwise you (or at least I) would read it as expert sex change dot com.
