having read a few replies regarding Dark Materials and a few people saying they like the fantasy genre, was wondering if anyone had read Roger Zelazny's 'The Chronicles of Amber' ?

I read them many moons ago and remember them with affection, might just have to ask Santa soon :-)

Oh that's what it was, was it. The TV guide synopsis didn't even hint at that when I looked, sounded like another boring soap-like drama.

I quite like science fantasy, prefer science fiction, especially weirder psychological flavour stuff. But if I'm honest, I have so much to read that's not getting read already. Difficult enough keeping up with the New Scientists and science websites let alone thinking about getting lost in a fiction yarn.
I always found Rogers work a bit bland - my fave was Anne McCaffrey
