Does anyone know if Patrick Stewart has played the title role in King Lear? And also if there is a site which lists an actor's theatre credits. Wikipedia is usually very good in the respect but has fallen down here in only giving Mr Stewart's theatre credits as far back as 1990.

I don't know. But before 1990 would he not have been considered too young to play Lear? It's usually seen as a role for an older actor.
I see from the links he was a 'spear carrier' in Lear

Thanks for your answers. It looks like he hasn't played King Lear, though he did play John Lear in King of Texas which was a modern reworking.
Sandy, you make a good point but he was born in 1940 and would have been 50 in 1990,so I am thinking he could have been eligible to play the role in the 80's,Paul Schofield was in his 40s when he played Lear. And there is the old problem for actors that when they are old enough to understand the role they may not be strong enough to undertake it even with the lightest Cordelia.
Here is a link to the RSC's archive database, using Patrick Stewart as the search. Obviously only lists their productions but its comprehensive.
