Hi my ex/wife is trying to remember the name of a possibly children's book she read when she was about 10 years old. She was born in 1968 if that's a clue, so it would be writtne pre 1978ish.
It was about 2 or three generations of women from the same family and the chapter's were set off into each individual's story. All that she can remember is that one of the characters was called Nina and some of the plot involved one of the women being a dancer, marrying a polish man and getting caught and tortured by the Nazi's by them burning the soles of her feet. It was an eerie/ ghostly type of book spanning approximately 50 or so years.
Any help would be massively appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

She's fairly sure it was one of those books aimed at the 11-15 year old market, so probably be considered a 'teen' book now but she's fairly sure it wasn't an adult book.
If no one knows on here, go to the abebooks website and ask on their booksleuth forum

Ah good call Woofgang, thank you- she's really frustrated about it, she can remember most books she read around that time but not that particular title or author and she wanted our daughter to read it.
Try asking in your public Library. The staff there have all sorts of indexes which may help.

Hi all, thank you all for the suggestions. Tt's fine now, the dozy thing finally remembered on her own ( one of those Eureka moments) - it was a kids book written by Ruth M Arthur in 1966 and called 'A Candle in her Room'. Thanks all for your help:)
