Could anyone please enlighten me as to the title of a novel I read about fifteen years ago?
Synopsis. It starts in ancient history about a Tel.. an ancient digging site. It tells of the lives of the people, at that time, then moves on to a further generation. Mostly Hebrew I believe. It keeps moving forward slowly expanding a connection through time.I thought it was The dig or something like that. It was a large novel and had a lot of historical research applied to it.
I thank you for taking the trouble to answer this

It's Mitchener's "The Source" - an excellent novel.
With apologies to James Michener, who spells his name this way, not mine!

Thank you Zabadak. you got it in one. I'm of to source it now.
if you are still around David get hold of any of Micheners books they are all in a similar vein to The Source. Outstanding are Hawaii and The covenant

always recommend the covenant when anyone asks me about South Africa - it explains it's complicated and history so well.
I agree. I read The Source years ago and I enjoyed it, James Micheners books are all very interesting reads
