unknown title of childrens book

I am trying to remember the title of a children's book I will have read in the late '80's to 1990 at the latest. I can't remember finishing the book or how the story progressed but it was about a young girl of about 6, who's name was possibly the title of the book, she was very reclusive and shy, hardly ever spoke and had a very active imagination. I remember something about her seeing dancing figures in the leaves and in the flames of the fire. I think the fire bit was quite important. Can anyone help with more details if these ring a bell or does anyone know the book? It's a long shot I know, sorry.
