When I was a young adult I loved his books. I’ve just ordered On the Beach and wonder if I’ll be as spell bound as I was 50 years ago......somehow I doubt it.
Has anybody else done this?

I often look for out of print books that I read in my childhood and teens. I always liked A Town Like Alice.
Oh someone else who loved Nevil Shute . My first dip into adult reading aged 15 in 1955. Started me on a lifetime of reading and yes I have read some of his books again .
My favourite author, I read most of his books a second time a few years ago.

If you haven't read it, try his autobiography, Slide Rule.

Well it seems to be the case of ‘once a Nevil Shute fan always a Nevil Shute fan’ and now I’m looking forward to reading all of them again. Roll on Amazon market place.
"On The Beach", a great book, and also, and this doesn't happen very often, it was made into a excellent movie. The many versions of the playing of the song "Waltzing Matilda" was quite memorable and moving.
Here is an example of the various arrangements of "Waltzing Matilda":
Our dear departed colleague, Mikey444 was a Nevil Shute fan too.

My first "adult" book was The Diary of Anna Frank. Since then I've visited where she lived in hiding and Bergen Belsen where she died. I found it very emotional.
Just love Nevil Shute books and have the whole collection. Written in a much gentler age. My absolute favourites are A Town Like Alice and In the Wet which I have read many times. Haven't read his autobiography so thanks for the heads up Hoppy.

Oh gosh, now you’ve got me going......just ordered ‘In
the Wet’ ‘Trustee from a Toolroom’ and ‘A Town Like Alice’
You will enjoy xstitcher, Trustee from the Toolroom was my first foray into Nevil Shute books many, many moons ago and got me hooked.
Hoppy, just purchased Slide Rule and looking forward to reading it. You also reminded me of Mikey444 and his love of Nevil Shute - thank you.
It'll open your eyes that he was just an author in his spare time, in a busy life.
