Thanks folks will plod on.
I read it a few years ago and quite enjoyed it though it does go on a bit. I think it could have been shorter.

13 year old daughter has just started, not sure what she'll make if it.
I preferred the film to the book. Loved Jeffrey Rush in it.
Started reading this book, and nearly didn't carry on with it when I realised that the narrator was Death. However, stick with it, it is a real, page turner. It gives a picture of life in Germany during WW2. I understood my Dad becoming a pacifist after fighting in WW2 "no one wins a war, just the ordinary people suffer!" How right he was!
This is one of my all time favourite books, so moving, I was in 'bits' at the end. Stick with it please. (1,883 5* reviews on Amazon) -rosy
Yes I have just finished reading it. And loved it.! But at the beginning I thought I wasnt going to like it but it soon becomes clear...Please do read it you will be pleased you did, Brenda x
I often find that a good book is no indication that the film will also be good - and vice versa. By many accounts, 12 Years A Slave is an excellent film yet i found the book extremely boring and it took a certain amount of willpower just to finish reading it to see what transpired in the end.
