Searching for western book - indian trading post

Hi, I am trying to find a book I read in the early 80s. It was a paperback western book with an indian trading post in it. I think it had an orange-coloured cover. There was an indian (Apache?) torture method mentioned in it - something like the indians staked men out in the hot sun and cut off their eyelids so that the spiders "drank from the pools of the eyes". I think there were two main male characters (maybe one an ex-cavalry man) and a female (maybe indian?) character. Does anyone remember reading a book such as this one?
