I am seeing more and more questions relating to what could be serious health problems.

I think you should have a warning that the best people to ask are medical experts, not amateurs who could give incorrect advise.

Hi RaytheDJ, this idea has been mentioned before:

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Search/Question65422-19.as p?Page=1&SearchText=body & soul

but with many answers the member has often said 'Go the your doctor', 'get it checked out by your GP'. etc, as they all did to a post today.

There are many people on this site who have a vast amount of knowledge and experience, and despite some opinions, we are intelligent human beings. Please credit us with common sense and certainly do not refer to me as an 'amateur'. I have more than enough 'life experience' to qualify as a 'proffessional'!!

Yes Ray this has been raised before, also a similar warning in animals and nature. I agree that responders do say sensible things and advise a visit to doc or vet as appropriate, but  I am concerned that the asker will wait for responses before getting their problem checked out professionally. Not so worried about the human grown ups who can make their own choices, more about the posts relating to kids and animals who cannot say "*** this I need a doctor/vet" and go there themselves
Well said Lindy and Wolfgang.  However, I don't tink Ray the DJ was getting at us intentionally by using the word amateurs.
Oops: 'think' not 'tink'.  A hint of Irish there!  No disrespect intended.
All -- thanks for this thread and the comments made. We are looking at the best wording to go on the top of this category page. As has been mentioned in previous suggestions, I try to make appropriate comments regarding professional advice on relevant threads unless a user has got there first. Very often, you do. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback.

I still say that unless someone is a trained medical practitioner, they should be considered an amateur.

Diagnosis of medical problems cannot be made from reading a short question posted here.  One needs to know the full scenario, background and mental condition of the patient.

Children, the elderly and other vulnerable people could take the wrong advice and suffer as a result.

I little knowledge of something is worse than no knowledge at all.

I think if you are in tune with your body you probably know more than the medical "experts" in this country.  Just follow your instincts.
