Hi Ed, thank you for the changes made so far, I was wondering if it would be possible to reinstate the "report answer" facility. Threads get ruined by trolls who's main aims are to be offensive and cause trouble, however it is unfair to report the question as it is completely innocent.
not looking for miracles but this facility did exist at one point on here
Cazz didn't the ed say there was a problem with blocks of users using that to report answers and basically dictate who answers?
I think its more sensible to wait until the moderation at night and weekend starts
I'm certain that will see the end of the trolls.
Though i may be wrong ,
i very much doubt it.
The long standing members who abused the report answer facility bear the brunt of the blame.
For every action theres a reaction.
And the result of them trying to dictate who posted .
It was the cause of many an upset too, if it could be used with a delayed reaction, rather than the popst be immediatly removed when it is reported 10 times, like a thread can be now, if it is brought to the eds attention and then the ed remove it, it would not be as misused as it has been.
its a shame that these facilities get abused by idiots, I never considered that people would maliciously report answers on mass (how many reports would result in a ban I wonder?)
I will be waiting for the weekend and evening moderation with anticipation
It's a shame as at least a thread could stay, just with idiotic and offensive or abusive answers removed though I do remember all the trouble it caused due to a pathetic minority.
Maybe it could be limited to those grey users who have been around sometime, ie not green names (to try and cut down on aliases) and with anyone abusing the priviledge having the priviledge removed.
Make the report/remove answer ability only available to the original poster.
Then it could only be abused by idiots when it's the idiots that started the thread in the first place, and if they are that sort of idiot then why are people posting on their threads to start with.
Pardon me Chuckie, but there is a tiny wee flaw in your suggestion.....lol
How do you propose to make the report facility only available to the original poster, yet expect the person who removed the answer to remain anonymous? lol ;O)
Aaaaaaaaaaah ok...I see you mean the poster of the answer, not of the thread, sorry!
Still, everyone will soon know who it was, people tend to talk!
I agree with making it available to the original poster (X) only, but I can see it resulting in childish removal of answers from"people you don't like" (Y), who will in turn remove X's answers, as well as his "friends'"....Mmmmmh.
