So disappointing,
I always championed the chat-room idea in days gone bye, ('though I'd seen it as a real-time, multi-thread, chat-room where conversations disappeared into the night),.. but as it stands, it's just bleedin' inane.
In it's current form, I think it detracts from the whole ethos of the site
Maybe it'd be an idea to allow access to the chatroom to only those who'd turned black (obviously excludes Michael Jackson), or qualified by asking/answering a certain quota of questions/answers or whatever.
At the moment it's the category with the most questions least worthy of opening any subject heading.
Is it worth saving? I don't know?

Is it worth saving? Yes i'd like to think so, there are still a lot of very nice people on here

Question Author
I agree, There's an incredibly high number of nice people on here. I just feel that the last place they'd feel inclined to post is on Chatterbank.
Yeah I know what you mean but you just have to persevere and not let bullies win

the idea of qualifying... well, imagine trolls cluttering up other sections with inane posts just to get their numbers up so they can go on CB and do the same thing...

It's a mixture of cheerful chat, drunken blather and snide offensiveness and impersonation. It's the latter problems that need sorting out, and though the reporting function helps, I suspect it needs proper 24/7 moderation to keep the sheer nastiness at bay when it crops up, which is especially late at night and over the weekends. I doubt that such a suggestion would fit AB's business model, though.

Question Author
I know the qualifying thing doesn't really stand up..I was just typing aloud, I just wonder if it could be better or if the site was better before it existed. I do genuinely think it's offputting, as it stands.

i am green cos i had to re-registar,not cos i got banned but because someone posted as me when i was lsie and was trying to impersonate me,,thats why im green

Chillum do you use the chatterbank catagory much. i havn't noticed you in there at all. The regular users have become quite attached to CB. Which topic do you generally use?

Well, I can see your point, but If you don't like it, try to ignore it.

At least there are so many categories where the daft folk don't go. CB is more like an active recycle bin.You should be glad they stay there....

And I know I'm green, but I changed back to keep my original name...

There are thousands of chat sites on the net. If CB was live, the rude word blocker wouldn't be able to do it's job...

I know it's not the answer you want, but life's not like that, is it?

Question Author
No,I don't use the chatterbank often. I don't use one particular category, I tend to go through them all, seeing if I can help or if I have an opinion, where it's asked for. I'd like to use Chatterbank but every thread I look at lately is bitching about Chatterbank users, or, previously "whats for tea?" type sh!te. I don't blame anyone for that. I just don't think that, in it's present form, it works within the ethos of the site.
Hi Chillum, I've only just got back having left as chatterbank started up. What I liked in the "Olden Days" was the chatter was confined within the topics and altho Ed would sometimes rule with an iron fist, humour and robust exchanges were often allowed. It was also fun watching the naughty kids push the limits. It doesn't seem much fun on chatterbank from what I've seen.
There seems to be a lot of talk about recent "troubles" on AB so I guess I'll have to trawl back and see what I've missed.

Chillum if only cb users would totally ignore the 'idiots' they'd be gone a lot sooner. It seems though that they simply can't resist jumping in & are therefore perpetuating the problems.I think that many enjoy the fights - it drives me crazy when the first post I see in there is 'So where's 'timewaster1' this morning then?

I visit another forum (medical) where someone posted three seperate childish comments. No one acknowledged him & he never came back.

We all get duped - I did myself recently - but now I know the person was a wind up I won't be answering any more of their Q's.

Phew - rant over! :-)

good afternoon Chillum

Sorry for mytherin ye

Dot

Chillum,as i see it chatterbank isnt a chat room, because you can only post on threads, not chat to ppl u can see online, also CB is good for the fact that if you think something aint right u dont have to post or reply. It does say on home page of AB that chatter bank is extension of ab for ppl who just want to post general stuff and have a laugh doing it.Those who have taken advantige have been removed,so i really dont see what the problem is.I think CB is great site.
