I can understand when mods or ed remove a post ?but fail to see why an entire thread is removed?

hc4361 - hopefully not, since it is a valid point, and posted in Site Suggestions. To remove a thread asking why threads are removed would be a perfect Catch-22!

A thread is usually removed by the ED, rather than by Mods - speaking personally I have never removed a thread.
They are usually removed because they have descended into personal animosity, and the original thread discussion has run its course - that will almost always result in a thread being pulled.]
Other than that, they can vanish at inception if they are adjudged to be unsuitable, or contravening Site Rules.

Why would a thread be removed? On other sites the moderators will blatantly say "Yes I removed this thread or banned this user for so and so and if you don't like it then don't post blah blah blah" and give the reason which is a good and transparent way of moderating and it also warns the site users of conduct and disorderly conduct which enhances the sites running.
Isn't that a better idea then secretly removing a thread or user, not giving a reason and allowing the same mistakes to be made time and time again?

Threads are removed if they break the Site Rules. For example they might be removed because they discuss topics that are not family friendly. Or because they have descended into sniping and arguments and it makes more sense to remove an entire thread than it does to remove each individual post because it has all gone so far off topic. Threads might also be removed if they are libellous and could get The AnswerBank into trouble.
Threads that ask why a particular thread was removed are also removed, because the original thread was removed for a reason, and we don't want the topic to be started up all over again. Threads about banned posters are also removed for similar reasons, and because the Eds don't get into discussions about why people have been banned or suspended. We just don't have time to explain every decision we make. And of course, spam threads are deleted too.

Thank you SE. I didn't see any Site Rules being broken , but, Site Rules are not my specialist subject . :-)
There is a possible flaw in the suspension system in that, while any moderator (or, of course, the Ed) can reinstate a suspended member, it will only actually happen if someone gets around to doing so.
Since one moderator is unlikely to reinstate someone suspended by another moderator (either for fear of treading on someone else's toes or simply because they're unaware of the suspension in the first place), it's likely that only the moderator who initiated the suspension will reverse it (unless the Ed does).
If the moderator who initiated the suspension forgets about it (or remembers suspending someone but can't recall their username) then a suspension might never be reversed.
(I've only ever suspended one person. I did lift the suspension but after a longer period than I'd intended, simply because it had slipped my mind for a while).

Anne, you may not have seen Site Rules broken but they were and it's little wonder not only that thread but other posts elsewhere disappeared.
The high dudgeon from some when a removable happens is very telling or certainly was last night.
None of us are more important than the next and all our time is as precious as the next too - once we consider ourself better than others we lose something of the term 'Site member'.
