Hi, I'm trying to identify a bird. I haven't seen to know what it looks like it but it has a very distinctive call. It's like a fairly high pitched squeaky alarm, it's three quick notes, two or three times, say if you have descending notes with A being the highest and C the lowest, it goes C, A, B then again, twice or three times. I live in an urban area. It would be great to work out which bird it is. Any help appreciated :)

Birds are very vocal at this time of year, my wild guess is the great tit.

They are very vocal, it's lovely! Thank you for replying. It sounds like a bigger bird, reminds me a bit of one of those sheep dog whistles, no sheep herding around here though haha!
Hi, Eve....agree with Chip....this is the most vocal bird in my garden right now....x
//high pitched squeaky alarm// could it be a ring necked parakeet, Eve ?.
My immediate thought was Great Tit. They don't half go on...:-)

Hi Gness and Tilly :) They do go on but it's a lovely sound!

That's much more like it Chipchopper! There are some parakeets near here, escaped and are happily living in the wild (well, as much as Manchester is the wild haha!) not far from me. They have a very distinctive call, I can hear when they are flying nearby, usually always in a group but occasionally a solo one. It's a different call but it could still be them! Apparently they are ring necked ones too!

Probably a great tit, but I'd also check out coal tit.
An Alexandrine parakeet has turned up in my local park, chippy.
I thought I had a woodpecker in the garden this morning.....it was a great tit banging on the wooden bird box to try to enlarge the hole.....
Banging with its beak.....testing the size.....I'll take a file out tomorrow and help it along.....tough beak though!...x
Just put it on the bill, Gness :-)
If I was on twitter I'd tweet your reply, Chip..... :-)

Sorry for the late reply and thank you :) That's brilliant Talbot, thank you so much for that. Will have a good listen and see which other birds I can pick out.
hi eve there are apps available for mobile phones which will identify them for you

Great Tit call is usually 2 notes, sounding like tea cher, tea cher, tea cher! Blue tit is a chirpy 3 notes but obviously without seeing the bird it might be more difficult if it's not an easily identifiable call!

Oooh thanks Johnny! I wish I could see it as it would make things easier. I keep hearing it but can never see it. I do see the parakeets sometimes, they have quite a distinctive call so I can hear them coming, usually flying in a large group though occasionally a solo one. I'd love to work out what it is.
don't be too disappointed if it turns out to be a starling they will mimic any sound
