I'm in North Yorks and the swifts left for Africa last Monday( 1st August).
The last of the swallows seem to be leaving today ( 8th August).
This seems earlier than normal. Is it? I seem to remember the swallows being here 'til early September. Am I mistaken?

Being as they arrived a little earlier this Year and their young have all fledged, they are off to Africa for the winter. They probably find our climate a little less Summery than usual !
The Swifts that live in my eves, also left last week, but the swallows are still here in Hampshire. I do miss the Swifts scrabbling about, and their wonder full chattery screeching :(

Dustypuss, I'm near Selby and the swifts went a week ago. Most of the swallows yesterday. Just a few housemartins left now.
