HI

My mouse has been scratching alot more recently to the extent he is missing some fur around his face so i went to pets at home and bought some spot-on stuff to help get rid of mites as that is what i thought it might be and i couldnt get in to see the vet and now he seems to be scratching even more!! Don't know what to do to soothe his skin. any ideas?

you should never give an animal any medication without knowing what is wrong.Maybe you should have consulted a vet,as spot-on treatments are meant for dogs or cats. Your mouse may be reacting to the spot-on.
You could try some vaseline over the affected area until you can see a vet.
Spot on treatments are available for small animals such as hamsters etc, did you buy the correct one specifically stating mice, hamsters etc?
There are many things that it could be, if you have other animals then he could have fleas, possibly may have ringworm or scabies- these are zoonotic so can be passed on to you. The best thing to do would be to consult your vet and ensure he gets the correct treatment. In the meantime dont use the treatment you bought again, unless you see a flea.
Have a good look all over him, and see what u can find this will really help the vet when you see him/her.

Hi thanks for your answers, i did buy the correct spot-on treatments for small animals which said it was suitable for use on mice etc, i managed to get to see the vet and she couldn't understand why it made him scratch more although she has given him some anti-biotics for ten days and already they have cooled his itching quite alot and the areas are a little less red but she said the stuff i had was what she would have recommended anyway as it was mights he has! thanks everyone
