lunch
Escorted? or were the crows chasing it, if so it was probably a young buzzard, if not then as Boo says it was probably lunch!
I have seen a heron being mobbed by two crows. Not a brown bird though. A bird of prey - falcon?
Crows do not eat adult birds, they only take young unfledged birds, it sounds like a thrush, maybe a fieldfare or redwing, being chased away from a food source, but without pics its impossible to say.

it was the trailing legs that puzzled me; quite a big bird ?
Don't all birds fly with trailing legs? except when they are landing of course
