Some of my cat loving friends may have come across Flossie in my posts on here. Sadly I had to take the decision today to have her put down. She had another stroke and didn't know where she was, then started having seizures so I had no choice. She was 19 and had been part of my life for 17 years so I am going to miss her so very much. RIP

Hya bensmum so sorry to hear that.

A long time ago when I was with my first wife we had a cat and its name was floozie.

I named it of course.

(knobby)
Hi, sorry to hear your sad news. It is never an easy decision to put a pet down. She was a good age at 19, so remember all the good times you had with her.
bensmum, I'm so sorry. Words cannot express my sincere condolences and cyber-words are just that. Please try to think of the happy times when Flossie was young and a little pain in the wool:)

hugs

alba xx

Thank you all for your kind words. I used to call her Floozie as well knobby - she was a right little floozie when she was younger.
I'm just very sad at the moment
sorry to hear your sad news at least she had 17 happy years with you .

I am sorry to hear about Flossie, I was actually thinking about her the other day but couldn't remember who her 'mum' was!

My old cat George was ancient when I got him and he lived with me for 5 years. His demise was much the same as Flossie's. The vet said either a stroke or a fit. After the first one I watched him like a hawk - but, like you, I decided to let him go peacefully.

Maybe there is some big ginger cat sitting with his bags packed ready to move in.

Best wishes Susan, Frankie and Princess Merlin x
Hi bensmum:

Know exactly how you're feeling: been there, done it etc etc. It never gets easier, does it, no matter how many times any of us has been through it?

Your little Flossie obviously had 17 love-filled years and she'll always be in your heart. And once the initial grief passes, you'll of course find yourself chuckling as you reminisce about what she got up to while she was with you. If only they could talk, eh?

What you've had to do today is certainly the hardest thing I've ever done as well, but if the quality of life's not there any more we do what we have to out of sheer love because none of us would see them suffer. Simple as that.

Aww Bensmum, what sad news. Flossie is at peace now. Having to make that decision is always difficult but she would have been distressed when having fits so, as you say, it was the kindest thing.
Cats are only loaned to us for a short time and you have 17 years of lovely memories. In time you will be able to remember her with a smile.

Ahh bensmum sorry to hear about Flossie. So sad when one of the family dies you never know what to do.

Lovely to know she had so many years with you. When I lived at home we had a cat who had a stroke and fits and he kept walking around in circles crying before we had him put to sleep - it's heartbreaking but so much better than keeping a cat alive in pain.
bensmum, I'm so sorry to hear your sad news. It's an awful decision that responsible pet owners have to make. Take comfort in the fact that she gave you 17 years of pleasure.
I'm so sorry to hear about little Flossie Bensmum. Its so heartbreaking when we lose our pets. I had Snoopy for 15 years since he was a kitten. When the vet told me there was no choice but to have him put down I was devastated. He had kidney failure and there was nothing the could do. He was put down on my birthday in 2000.

Thinking of you and little Flossie

Very sorry to hear your news about Flossie, bensmum - it just leaves such an empty space, and you can't believe it'll ever get better but it does. You know deep inside you've done the best thing you could for her, you've loved her too much and for too long to let her suffer, but h*ll it hurts, I know. take care xxx

Thanks for your replies everyone. I know that anyone who ever had a pet will know how it feels to have to make that decision. Like most I had hoped she might have just gone to sleep one day but in the end I owed it to her to let her go. Thanks again everyone.
My thoughts are with you bensmum. I know exactly how you are feeling. I wish I could give you a hug.
Rest in Peace little Flossie. Forever in the hearts of those who loved you.
She will leave paw prints on your heart,RIP Flossie.
I am very sorry for your loss bensum; I hope in time you remember your special girl with smiles rather than tears. Xx
